Financial Aid Night for Parents and Students

Tuesday, November 17th there will be a virtual Financial Aid Night on Teams for all seniors students and parents.  Emily Towery from FSCJ will be our guest presenter to discuss the ins and outs of the FAFSA and Florida Bright Futurues Application.  We will also discuss other types of financial aid such as scholarships and grants.  We hope to see you there!  E-mail Mrs. Granger with any questions.

Invest in Your Future - a Community Forum Event

UNCF is hosting a forum on financing college through loans, grants, and scholarships.  This event is designed for grades 8 through 12.  It will take place at First Coast High School on Saturday, March 30th from 10 am - 2 pm.  Refreshments and lunch will be provided.  Also, there is a raffle for students who bring their parents with them.  Register at https://tinyurl.com/Jacksonville-Forum  Click here for the flyer.

Daddy Daughter Dance @ Prime Osborn Convention Center

Girls Inc. of Jacksonville is hosting an Annual Spring Fling Daddy Daughter Dance on Saturday, April 6, 2019 from 4-8 pm at the Prime Osborn Convention Center.  It costs $85 per couple.  Seating for dinner is at 5 pm.  Contact 904-731-9933 to make reservations. College Board's New Opportunity Scholarship Program

CollegeBoard just rolled out a brand new program that guides students through the college planning process.  Not only to they gain knowledge, but they have the potential to earn scholarship dollars as they go through the program.  The scholarships start at $500, but as they go along the scholarship dollar amounts increase for the various activities.  If they complete the entire program, they can earn a $40,000 scholarship if selected!  Students should go to cb.org/opportunity to get started!

PSAT

October 10, 2018 is PSAT Day at Baldwin Middle-Senior High School.  The 7th, 8th, and 9th graders will be taking the PSAT 8/9 test.  The 10th and 11th graders will be taking the PSAT NMSQT test.  These tests are important practice tests to prepare for the SAT test used by college and by the district to meet concordant scores for graduation.  Take the test seriously and arrive on time!  Attached are guides to help you prepare.

College and Career Night

Senior students and parents:  You are invited to our College and Career Night on Thursday, September 27th from 5:30 to 7:00 pm.  We will discuss graduation, Bright Futures, college applications, testing, and much more!  We will have representatives present from UNF, FSCJ, military branches, and technical colleges.  Students who bring their parent or guardian will receive an extra graduation ticket.  Look forward to seeing you there!

This is a great program for students aged 14-21.  Students learn things like interviewing skills, resume building, and communication skills.  Applications are due no later than May 25th.

Jax Goes to College Week - Oct. 9-13th

Next week is Jax Goes to College Week!  We would like to challenge all high school and middle school students of Baldwin to compete in Mayor Curry's High School or Middle School College Bingo Challenge.  Students who complete the challenge have a chance to win tickets to a Jacksonville Jaguars home game!  See the two attachments for the Bingo cards and directions.

Public Work Opportunities with the city of Jacksonville

UNF 17-18 Events for Incoming Freshman

See the attached list for many events coming up this fall and spring at UNF.  Seniors can start applying to UNF now online at www.unf.edu/admissions/   If you are on the free/reduced lunch program, I advise you to apply before October 15th.  You could be eligible for the UNF Jacksonville Commitment Scholarship worth up to $24,000!  After applying to UNF, you must complete the FAFSA online before October 15th and also be eligible for the Pell Grant.  See details under the Scholarships tab.

17-18 ACT and SAT Registration Dates

Click here for the flyer containing all SAT and ACT dates for the 17-18 school year.  It is possible that Florida legislation could increase concordant scores for the FSA Reading test on October 1st.  If you still need to pass the FSA Reading assessment for graduation, it is advised that you register for the August SAT and/or September ACT test.  See Ms. Kirk for waivers if you are on free/reduced lunch.

DCPS & FSCJ College Access Night

FSCJ is hosting a College Access Night in partnership with DCPS on Wednesday, July 26th from 5:30-7:30 pm at the FSCJ Advanced Technology Center on State Street in Jax.  This is a great opportunity for rising seniors to get information on financial aid and college.  The event is free and open to the public.  Pre-registration is encouraged but not required.  Click here for the flyer and hyperlink to pre-register.
